To any prospective directors
My name is Timothy Cook, and I’m an amateur playwright who has written a few scripts. I’m interested in directors who will work with me to direct the actors in potential performances and handle organisation for my group, Theatrical Laboratory of Light and Darkness.
Theatrical Laboratory of Light and Darkness is a voluntary, fringe theatre group. intended to workshop my plays with the goal of getting them performed by theatre companies or within the group.
To work as director in my group, your aspirations for performances aren’t just to get my scripts produced and performed. But to enable the collaboration of actors and to bring out the spectacle of my scripts, so that, in line with Antonin Artaud’s theories, drama would spread like a dark plague to the audiences in how it’s felt in the body and encourage their participation.
My plans for the groups are, as such, for the future:
- Get more actors into the group.
- Setup and distribute surveys to clarify availability, preferred locations, and so forth.
- Finalise the location and times, and
- Initiate workshops proper, which go through the below steps.
- Script Readings
- Feedback & Q&A
- Development
- Submission, or
- Performance.
Apart from helping me organise workshops and direct performances, Additional help with administrating the Facebook group and organising calls through Gigbook would be appreciated in general.
Here’s a rough example of content, as quoted from the actors call:
”For example, in one of my plays, Restricted Living: A Theatrical Lockdown, Act 1.
The main character is insecure about his girlfriend giving attention to the weather forecaster on TV. Imagining in his fantasies that she was cheating on him; this culminates in him brutally hitting the forecaster with a weather stick in retribution during his last fantasy. before embracing his responsibilities as a boyfriend and leaving his home with his girlfriend.”
If you can stomach this, I would like directors to send their portfolios and CVs through the application contact. Once that’s done, I’ll invite you to the Facebook group.
